Our street is bursting with creativity, and we’re really looking forward to the arty electrical boxes we’re going to create together! On this page, you can read how to take part in the Art Cabinets project, for which we’ve received a budget from West Begroot / the City of Amsterdam.

Thanks a million to all our creative neighbors for the 20 wonderful submissions!
After a long process of deliberation, the KunstKastjes team has selected 7 designs out of 20 submissions.
Throughout July and August, the designers will paint the cabinets, under the guidance of artist Leone. The artworks will appear one by one on De Wittenkade this summer.
After the summer, on a date to be determined, you are cordially invited to the KunstKastjes opening.

Team Art Cabinets
Artist

1. TEAM ART CABINETS
We are looking for at least 3 additional members for Team Art Cabinets. Is this something for you?
You live on, or nearby, De Wittenkade.
You have an interest in art and design.
You’d like to help improve the streetscape.
You have time and interest to meet with the team about once a month from May through September 2025.
You might also have time and interest to coordinate and guide the implementation from July through September 2025.
Tasks Team Art Cabinets: Review submitted proposals, assess feasibility, select artworks, communicate with artists, coordinate proposals/boxes/modifications, coordinate implementation, guide execution, organize and promote the mini art tour, contribute to the maintenance plan.You can sign up below until June 1, 2025.

Who?
Artists, designers, illustrators living on De Wittenkade, or in the direct neighborhood.
Process / timeline
June 1, 2025: Deadline to submit your design (see specifications below)
June 15, 2025: Team Kunstkastjes votes and selects 7 designs from the submissions
June 15 – July 1, 2025: Coordination/planning with designers/artists regarding execution
July 1 – September 1, 2025: Execution is done by the designer/artist themselves, under the guidance of a professional street artist, or the designer/artist assembles their own team.
Note: Cleaning and prepping the boxes—so they’re ready as a canvas for painting—will be done by Team Art Cabinets. The coating for durability will also be handled by the team.

750 euro excluding btw per electrical box

You can view the photos below for the different possible proportions. After selection, designs will be matched with boxes. The dimensions and ratios of your design will be adjusted to fit the matched box.
